University of Louisville: merit scholarships by ACT score
University of Louisville awards automatic merit aid from a published grid crossing ACT score with GPA. Awards start at an ACT of 26 and reach $8,000 a year. Because the bands are steps rather than a slope, one point is worth nothing inside a band and the whole step at the edge of one.
Enter a score and a GPA below to see which band it actually lands in, what that band pays, and exactly how many points the next one needs.
Unweighted, as the school asks for it.

Example — an ACT 29 with a 3.60 GPA
Trustees' Scholarship
$4,500 / year
About $18,000 over four years, if it renews.
What the next points are worth
1 more point (a 30) moves you to Trustees' Scholarship — $6,000 a year. That is $1,500 more a year, or $6,000 over four years.
The question isn't whether a point is worth having. It's whether they can move it — which starts with knowing exactly which questions they're missing, and why.

A 3.5 weighted GPA applies across every band; the ACT score alone moves the award. Students receive the highest amount they qualify for, and admissions scholarships do not stack.

Does Louisville superscore for scholarships?
No. UofL uses the highest single composite, not a superscore, for admission and scholarships alike.
“UofL does not accept SuperScores for admission or scholarship purposes.”
This matters more than it sounds. A student whose superscore crosses a band but whose best single sitting does not will be paid on the lower band. Look up your best single sitting in the grid above, then find what is costing you points on one test.
Comparing schools? See which colleges superscore for scholarships — 66 of 501 commit to it, 52 say they do not, and the rest never say.
Louisville scholarship deadlines
| Entry term | Due |
|---|---|
| Guaranteed if admitted by | April 1 (no scholarship application needed) |
| Competitive and mentored scholarships | December 1 |
Scores take roughly two to four weeks to arrive, and official reports sent to schools can take longer, so the last useful test date is several weeks before the printed deadline. Check which test dates still make it.
Where these numbers came from
Every figure on this page was read from University of Louisville’s own published pages, linked below with the date we last confirmed them. We do not estimate a missing band or interpolate a value.
- The no-score route is earned with transferable college credit, not a higher GPA: 5–11 hours reaches $2,500, 12–20 hours $3,500, 21–29 hours $4,500 and 30+ hours $6,000, each alongside the 3.5 weighted GPA. The $7,000 and $8,000 bands have no no-score equivalent.
- Southern Indiana counts as in-state for this award: Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Perry, Scott and Washington counties.
- Out-of-state students are covered by three separate region-based programmes — Border Benefit, Regional Scholars and National Scholars — worth roughly $5,000 to $21,000 a year depending on where you live. They are not in this grid because the bands differ by region.
- Governor's Scholars, Gatton, Craft and Rogers programme participants reach $5,000–$10,000 a year on a separate table.
- UofL publishes no renewal GPA for these awards; it says only that they are renewable.

Frequently asked questions
What ACT score do you need for a scholarship at Louisville?
Automatic merit aid at University of Louisville starts at an ACT composite of 26, alongside the published GPA minimum, and reaches $8,000 a year at the top. The bands are steps rather than a slope, so the only score that matters is the next threshold above where you are now.
Is Louisville test-optional?
UofL is test-optional for admission to every major, with pathways in to all programmes without a score. For merit aid the answer is different: a score is never required and is only used when it helps you. The no-score route exists but runs on transferable college credit rather than a higher GPA, and tops out at $6,000 — the $7,000 and $8,000 bands need a 31 or a 36. Being admitted without a score and qualifying for money without a score are two separate questions.
How much is a 30 on the ACT worth at Louisville?
On Louisville's published grid for Fall 2027 entry, an ACT of 30 with a 3.6 GPA qualifies for Trustees' Scholarship at $6,000 a year, about $24,000 over four years if it renews.
How much is one more ACT point worth at Louisville?
The most valuable single point on Louisville's published grid is 29 to 30, at a 3.5 GPA: it moves the award by $1,500 a year, or $6,000 across a four-year degree. The same point is worth less at other GPAs, and most points move nothing at all — the grid steps rather than slopes, which is why the only score worth aiming at is the next threshold.
Does Louisville superscore the ACT for scholarships?
No. UofL uses the highest single composite, not a superscore, for admission and scholarships alike. UofL does not accept SuperScores for admission or scholarship purposes.
When are Louisville scholarship deadlines?
Guaranteed if admitted by: April 1 (no scholarship application needed). Competitive and mentored scholarships: December 1. The application and the official score report are both due by that date, and ACT scores take roughly two to four weeks to arrive — so the last useful test date is several weeks earlier than the deadline suggests.
