Utah Tech University: merit scholarships by GPA
Utah Tech University awards automatic merit aid from a published grid keyed to GPA — the ACT is not used. Awards start at a 3.0 GPA and reach $2,700 a year. Because the bands are steps rather than a slope, a hundredth of a GPA point is worth nothing inside a band and the whole step at the edge of one.
Enter a GPA below to see which band it actually lands in, what that band pays, and what the next band needs.

These are the GPA-only tiers, which Utah Tech awards with no score required. Its two LARGER awards — Chancellor at $3,700 and Presidential at full base tuition — require a score and are gated on an index (unweighted GPA x 10, plus the highest ACT composite), which is a diagonal threshold this grid's rectangular bands cannot represent. So a score is worth real money here and this table does not show how much. The GPA is UNWEIGHTED, and awards are tuition-only.
Unweighted, as the school asks for it.

Example — a 3.60 GPA
Dean's Scholarship
$1,750 per year / year
About $7,000 over four years, if it renews.
Utah Tech awards this on GPA alone, so an ACT score does not change it. A higher score can still matter for admission, for honours programmes, and at other schools on the list — but not for this award.
The ACT doesn't move the money here — but it still decides admission, honours eligibility, and what they is worth at the other schools on the list, where most awards are score-keyed.

Does Utah Tech superscore for scholarships?
No. No, and Utah Tech says so directly: it does not consider a superscore on either test. Because the index runs off a single highest composite, a student retaking one section to lift a subscore gains nothing here.
“We do not consider any superscore SAT or ACT”
This matters more than it sounds. A student whose superscore crosses a band but whose best single sitting does not will be paid on the lower band. Look up your best single sitting in the grid above, then find what is costing you points on one test.

Utah Tech scholarship deadlines
| Entry term | Due |
|---|---|
| Full admission, transcripts and scores | March 1 for fall entry |
Scores take roughly two to four weeks to arrive, and official reports sent to schools can take longer, so the last useful test date is several weeks before the printed deadline. Check which test dates still make it.

- The GPA-only ceiling for a resident is $2,700 a year. With a score, the index tiers reach $3,700 or full base tuition.
- The index is published in text: unweighted GPA times ten, plus the highest ACT composite. Presidential needs 68 or more, Chancellor 64 to 67.9.
- That index is a diagonal threshold — a 3.6 with a 32 and a 4.0 with a 28 both reach 68 — which is why it is not reproduced as bands here.
- Utah Tech states it does not consider a superscore on either test, and does not consider any weighted GPA.
- Awards are tuition-only and run until 130 attempted credits or a bachelor's degree.
- GED and HiSET students are ineligible, and applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.
- The Red Cliffs award ($1,000 at a 2.0–2.99 GPA) is limited to Washington and Kane county seniors, so it is not a general band.
- The resident figures are published as text and also appear as an image chart on the same page.

Frequently asked questions
What ACT score do you need for a scholarship at Utah Tech?
Utah Tech University publishes a merit aid grid keyed to ACT score and GPA. See the tables on this page for the current bands.
Is Utah Tech test-optional?
The scholarship pages do not state the admission testing requirement, so nothing is claimed about it here. For merit aid the answer is different: a score is explicitly not required for the GPA tiers, which cap at $2,700 for a resident. It IS required for the Chancellor and Presidential awards, which pay $3,700 and full base tuition and are decided by an index combining the unweighted GPA with the highest ACT composite. So a score cannot be looked up against this table, but it raises the ceiling substantially. Being admitted without a score and qualifying for money without a score are two separate questions.
How much is a 30 on the ACT worth at Utah Tech?
On Utah Tech's published grid for 2027-28 entry, an ACT of 30 with a 3.6 GPA qualifies for Utah residents, GPA-only tiers — Dean's Scholarship at $1,750 a year, about $7,000 over four years if it renews.
Does in-state or out-of-state change merit aid at Utah Tech?
Yes. Utah Tech publishes separate grids: Utah residents, GPA-only tiers run $1,250 to $2,700 a year, and Non-residents run up to full tuition. Check which grid applies to you before planning around a figure.
Does Utah Tech superscore the ACT for scholarships?
No. No, and Utah Tech says so directly: it does not consider a superscore on either test. Because the index runs off a single highest composite, a student retaking one section to lift a subscore gains nothing here. We do not consider any superscore SAT or ACT
When are Utah Tech scholarship deadlines?
Full admission, transcripts and scores: March 1 for fall entry. The application and the official score report are both due by that date, and ACT scores take roughly two to four weeks to arrive — so the last useful test date is several weeks earlier than the deadline suggests.
