Carroll University: merit scholarships by ACT score
Carroll University awards automatic merit aid from a published grid crossing ACT score with GPA. Awards start at an ACT of 20 and reach $27,000 a year. Because the bands are steps rather than a slope, one point is worth nothing inside a band and the whole step at the edge of one.
Enter a score and a GPA below to see which band it actually lands in, what that band pays, and exactly how many points the next one needs.
Read this first
A score here can only help: Carroll says it will use an ACT "only if it helps your application and merit scholarship", so the GPA-only table is a floor and the score table can lift you off it but never below it. Two cautions. Carroll's 2027-28 GPA-only columns skip 3.10 to 3.30 — they run 3.49-3.31 then 3.099-2.8 — so a GPA in that window with no score is unpriced, and the $22,000 shown for it here is the lower neighbouring column rather than something Carroll published; ask Carroll directly. And the same page also carries 2026-27 amounts that are $1,000 to $2,000 lower at every band; only the 2027-28 figures are recorded here.
Unweighted, as the school asks for it.

Example — an ACT 29 with a 3.60 GPA
Voorhees Scholarship
$25,000 / year
About $100,000 over four years, if it renews.
There is no higher band to reach at this GPA — more points would not change the award here. They may still matter for admission, for honours programmes, or at other schools on the list.
Knowing where a score sits is the easy part. Moving it starts with knowing exactly which questions they're being missed, and why.

Can you get merit aid at Carroll without an ACT score?
Yes. Optional but worth sending. Carroll publishes a GPA-only table and a GPA-and-score table for the same five awards and uses a score only where it pays more, so submitting one is a one-way bet. At a 3.4 GPA, for example, a 28 is worth $25,000 against the $23,000 the GPA-only table pays.
Read the two columns in the grid below as a trade. The same award is reachable either way — with a score at a lower GPA, or with no score at a higher one. A score is worth real money to a student whose GPA sits under the test-optional line, and worth little to one comfortably above it.
“If you send us your ACT or SAT score, we’ll use it only if it helps your application and merit scholarship.”
The published Carroll merit aid grid
Reproduced in full from Carroll University’s own pages for 2027-28 entry. Nothing here is estimated: where the school states a benefit rather than a figure, that is what the table says.
Automatic first-year academic scholarships
Awarded at the point of acceptance with no extra application. A student is eligible for only ONE of these five awards, and the amount does not increase from year to year. Where a row of this table pays less than Carroll's GPA-only table would at the same GPA — a 3.6 with a 19, for instance — Carroll's "only if it helps" rule means the student keeps the larger GPA-only award, so treat this grid as the ceiling a score can reach rather than a penalty for sending one.

Does Carroll superscore for scholarships?
Yes. Yes. Carroll superscores multiple sittings and says the point of doing so is the student's benefit, and the same page states a submitted score is used only where it helps the merit scholarship — so the superscore is what the grid above is read against. Send every sitting.
“If multiple test scores are received, we will super score to give students a benefit”
So the number that matters here is your superscore, not your best single test. Work out your superscore and look that score up in the grid above — it may sit a band higher than the one you have been planning around.

Carroll scholarship deadlines
| Entry term | Due |
|---|---|
| Apply for admission (rolling; no deadline, reviewed as completed) | Rolling |
| Last date improved grades or scores can raise your merit award for 2027-28 | February 15, 2027 |
| Visit Grant — in-person visit after junior year | May 1 of senior year |
Scores take roughly two to four weeks to arrive, and official reports sent to schools can take longer, so the last useful test date is several weeks before the printed deadline. Check which test dates still make it.
Where these numbers came from
Every figure on this page was read from Carroll University’s own published pages, linked below with the date we last confirmed them. We do not estimate a missing band or interpolate a value.
- Scholarships for Undergraduate First-Year Students — 2027-2028 Academic Year Scholarship Amountsverified 2026-10-23
- First-Year Students: How to Apply — test policy and superscoringverified 2026-10-23
- A student receives only ONE of the five academic scholarships, and the amount does not increase from year to year — a sophomore with a better GPA does not move up a band. The only upward review is before February 15, 2027, off a 7th-semester transcript or a newly submitted score.
- The same page prints 2026-27 amounts $1,000 to $2,000 lower at every band ($18,000-$26,000 rather than $20,000-$27,000). Check the heading above the table before trusting a figure.
- The 2027-28 GPA-only (test-optional) columns skip 3.10 to 3.30: they run 4.00-3.9, 3.89-3.5, 3.49-3.31, then 3.099-2.8. The 2026-27 version of that table has no such gap, so a student in that window should ask Carroll which column applies.
- The MacAllister Full Tuition Scholarship needs a separate application and an on-campus interview, and its recipient "is not eligible for any other Carroll scholarships or grants" — it replaces the grid above rather than adding to it.
- Additive money that is NOT a second grid: a $2,000 Visit Grant ($500 a year) for an in-person visit after junior year, and a $500-a-year Hilger Tradition Award for children, grandchildren and siblings of alumni or an alumni referral. Both are tuition-and-fees only.
- Outside scholarships do not reduce Carroll's own aid — "At Carroll, outside scholarships do not reduce the amount of gift aid you'll receive from the university" — which is unusual and worth several thousand dollars to a student with community awards.
- Every other named award on the page (Sullivan Business, Noth Engineering, Davies Otto, Ganfield, Theatre, Music, Art, Opportunity, Esports) requires a special application and in most cases an interview, audition or portfolio. Several publish only "varying renewable amounts", so none of them are in the grid.
- Carroll bans AI in scholarship applications outright: "The use of artificial intelligence by a scholarship applicant is not permitted under any circumstances in conjunction with application content."
- The Wisconsin Grant (the state's need-based grant for students at Wisconsin private colleges, administered by HEAB off the FAFSA) is state money, not Carroll's, and is deliberately not in this grid.

Frequently asked questions
What ACT score do you need for a scholarship at Carroll?
Automatic merit aid at Carroll University starts at an ACT composite of 20, alongside the published GPA minimum, and reaches $27,000 a year at the top. The bands are steps rather than a slope, so the only score that matters is the next threshold above where you are now.
Is Carroll test-optional?
Optional, and Carroll reviews holistically. Six completed semesters of high school are required before an application can be reviewed at all, and an unofficial transcript or an unofficial score report is accepted. The ACT writing section is neither required nor considered. For merit aid the answer is different: optional but worth sending. Carroll publishes a GPA-only table and a GPA-and-score table for the same five awards and uses a score only where it pays more, so submitting one is a one-way bet. At a 3.4 GPA, for example, a 28 is worth $25,000 against the $23,000 the GPA-only table pays. Being admitted without a score and qualifying for money without a score are two separate questions.
How much is a 30 on the ACT worth at Carroll?
On Carroll's published grid for 2027-28 entry, an ACT of 30 with a 3.6 GPA qualifies for Voorhees Scholarship at $25,000 a year, about $100,000 over four years if it renews.
How much is one more ACT point worth at Carroll?
The most valuable single point on Carroll's published grid is 24 to 25, at a 2.5 GPA: it moves the award by $2,000 a year, or $8,000 across a four-year degree. The same point is worth less at other GPAs, and most points move nothing at all — the grid steps rather than slopes, which is why the only score worth aiming at is the next threshold.
Does Carroll superscore the ACT for scholarships?
Yes. Yes. Carroll superscores multiple sittings and says the point of doing so is the student's benefit, and the same page states a submitted score is used only where it helps the merit scholarship — so the superscore is what the grid above is read against. Send every sitting. If multiple test scores are received, we will super score to give students a benefit
When are Carroll scholarship deadlines?
Apply for admission (rolling; no deadline, reviewed as completed): Rolling. Last date improved grades or scores can raise your merit award for 2027-28: February 15, 2027. Visit Grant — in-person visit after junior year: May 1 of senior year. The application and the official score report are both due by that date, and ACT scores take roughly two to four weeks to arrive — so the last useful test date is several weeks earlier than the deadline suggests.
