Niagara University: merit scholarships and what the school publishes

Verified Oct 25, 2026Current cycleHolistic reviewLewiston, NY

Niagara University publishes merit aid criteria as published criteria. Because the bands are steps rather than a slope, a hundredth of a GPA point is worth nothing inside a band and the whole step at the edge of one.

Enter a score and a GPA below to see which band it actually lands in, what that band pays, and exactly how many points the next one needs.

Niagara prices five rungs from $25,000 a year down to $15,000 and publishes no GPA or score threshold for any of them, so no transcript can be mapped to a rung. Older Niagara catalogues do carry cutoffs — a 97 average with a 29 for the Presidential — but they also show a Trustees' award of $12,000 against the current $25,000, so they are stale and none of it is carried. Award amounts are adjusted below full-time status, which Niagara sets at six credits.

Example — an ACT 29 with a 3.60 GPA

Trustees', Presidential, Deans', Achievement award or NU Grant

determined by a thorough evaluation of the student's high school transcript and/or submitted standardized test scores

There is no higher band to reach at this GPA — more points would not change the award here. They may still matter for admission, for honours programmes, or at other schools on the list.

Knowing where a score sits is the easy part. Moving it starts with knowing exactly which questions they're being missed, and why.

The published Niagara merit aid grid

Reproduced in full from Niagara University’s own pages for the current cycle. Nothing here is estimated: where the school states a benefit rather than a figure, that is what the table says.

Does Niagara superscore for scholarships?

Yes. Sections combine across sittings of the same test, never between the ACT and the SAT, and Niagara then uses the better of the two exams whole. That is a concrete reason to repeat one test rather than split effort between both.

“Super-scoring the subsections of a test will occur within each test type only. Subsection super-scoring will not occur across the different test types.”

So the number that matters here is your superscore, not your best single test. Work out your superscore and look that score up in the grid above — it may sit a band higher than the one you have been planning around.

Niagara scholarship deadlines

Entry termDue
Rolling — no application deadlineRolling

Scores take roughly two to four weeks to arrive, and official reports sent to schools can take longer, so the last useful test date is several weeks before the printed deadline. Check which test dates still make it.

Where these numbers came from

Every figure on this page was read from Niagara University’s own published pages, linked below with the date we last confirmed them. We do not estimate a missing band or interpolate a value.

  • Five rungs: Trustees' $25,000 a year, Presidential $22,000, Deans' $20,000, Achievement $18,000, NU Grants $15,000.
  • No rung carries a published GPA or score threshold.
  • The test-optional policy covers merit scholarship consideration for all majors.
  • Superscoring combines sections within one test type only, never across the ACT and SAT.
  • Niagara then uses the better of the two exams as a whole.
  • That makes repeating one test more useful than splitting effort between two.
  • Older Niagara catalogues carry cutoffs and much smaller amounts, so they are stale and not used here.
  • Award amounts are adjusted for less than full-time status.
  • The Eagle Experience award of $1,250 requires attending an event, so it is not a band.
  • Admission is rolling with no deadline.

Frequently asked questions

What ACT score do you need for a scholarship at Niagara?

Niagara University publishes a merit aid grid keyed to ACT score and GPA. See the tables on this page for the current bands.

Is Niagara test-optional?

One sentence covers admission and the money for every major, so a score is read if sent and costs nothing if withheld. For merit aid the answer is different: a submitted score is evaluated alongside the transcript, with no published threshold to clear. Being admitted without a score and qualifying for money without a score are two separate questions.

Does Niagara superscore the ACT for scholarships?

Yes. Sections combine across sittings of the same test, never between the ACT and the SAT, and Niagara then uses the better of the two exams whole. That is a concrete reason to repeat one test rather than split effort between both. Super-scoring the subsections of a test will occur within each test type only. Subsection super-scoring will not occur across the different test types.

When are Niagara scholarship deadlines?

Rolling — no application deadline: Rolling. The application and the official score report are both due by that date, and ACT scores take roughly two to four weeks to arrive — so the last useful test date is several weeks earlier than the deadline suggests.

Is this Niagara scholarship data current?

Every figure on this page was read from Niagara University's own published pages and last verified on 2026-10-25. The sources are linked at the bottom of the page with that date. Grids change by entry year, so check the source before relying on a figure for a decision.

What to do next

You know what a score is worth at Niagara. The question is whether you can move it.

A grid tells you the target. It does not tell you which questions are costing the points between here and there. That takes about three minutes to find out.
