Oregon State University: merit scholarships by GPA

Verified Oct 24, 2026Fall 2027 entryACT not used for meritCorvallis, OR

Oregon State University awards automatic merit aid from a published grid keyed to GPA — the ACT is not used. Awards start at a 3.4 GPA and reach $10,000 a year. Because the bands are steps rather than a slope, a hundredth of a GPA point is worth nothing inside a band and the whole step at the edge of one.

Enter a GPA below to see which band it actually lands in, what that band pays, and what the next band needs.

The Provost award's $10,000 is a stated minimum that can rise to $16,000 on competitive review, while the resident Presidential award is "up to $10,000" and is not guaranteed — the same number is a floor in one column and a ceiling in the other. Below a 3.4 non-residents are evaluated holistically with no published figure. All GPAs are unweighted, and the Presidential award's alternative 4.20 weighted route is joined by an ambiguous "and/or", so it is noted rather than modelled.

Provost Scholarship

A minimum of $10,000 a year, with up to $16,000 on competitive review / year

About $40,000 over four years, if it renews.

Oregon State awards this on GPA alone, so an ACT score does not change it. A higher score can still matter for admission, for honours programmes, and at other schools on the list — but not for this award.

The ACT doesn't move the money here — but it still decides admission, honours eligibility, and what they is worth at the other schools on the list, where most awards are score-keyed.

Who's this for?
Oregon State’s early action (recommended) is November 2 — 5 days. The next ACT is 12/12 and scores take up to four weeks, so they would arrive after that date. The score they has now is the one this deadline uses.

The published Oregon State merit aid grid

Reproduced in full from Oregon State University’s own pages for Fall 2027 entry. Nothing here is estimated: where the school states a benefit rather than a figure, that is what the table says.

Non-residents outside the WUE states

Awarded automatically on a holistic review of the admission application. The $10,000 is a minimum, with up to $16,000 available on competitive review. Renewable for up to four years.

  • A minimum of $10,000 a year, with up to $16,000 on competitive review

    Provost Scholarship

No score needed · GPA 3.40

Residents of Western Undergraduate Exchange states

The same 3.4 threshold, paid as a tuition rate rather than a dollar award.

  • 150% of resident base tuition

    WUE Scholarship

No score needed · GPA 3.40

Oregon residents

A higher bar than the non-resident column, and an "up to" amount rather than a floor. Automatically reviewed for applicants who apply by February 2.

  • Up to $10,000 a year, not guaranteed

    Presidential Scholarship

No score needed · GPA 3.85

Does Oregon State superscore for scholarships?

No. Stated outright, though it makes no difference here — no OSU award reads a score.

“Oregon State doesn't calculate or accept 'super scores'.”

This matters more than it sounds. A student whose superscore crosses a band but whose best single sitting does not will be paid on the lower band. Look up your best single sitting in the grid above, then find what is costing you points on one test.

Scores take roughly two to four weeks to arrive, and official reports sent to schools can take longer, so the last useful test date is several weeks before the printed deadline. Check which test dates still make it.

Where these numbers came from

Every figure on this page was read from Oregon State University’s own published pages, linked below with the date we last confirmed them. We do not estimate a missing band or interpolate a value.

  • A non-resident at a 3.4 gets a guaranteed $10,000 a year; an Oregon resident needs a 3.85 for up to $10,000.
  • Oregon State asks less of the students it charges more.
  • The Provost figure is a minimum and can rise to $16,000 on competitive review.
  • The resident Presidential award is "up to" and is not guaranteed.
  • WUE pays 150% of resident base tuition at the same 3.4 threshold.
  • Below a 3.4, non-residents are evaluated holistically with no published figure.
  • All GPAs are unweighted.
  • Oregon State does not accept superscores.
  • The Finley award, up to $5,000 for Oregon residents at a 3.50, is holistic with no fixed amount, so it is not a band here.
  • The Presidential award names an alternative 4.20 weighted route joined by "and/or", which is too ambiguous to model.

Frequently asked questions

What ACT score do you need for a scholarship at Oregon State?

Oregon State University publishes a merit aid grid keyed to ACT score and GPA. See the tables on this page for the current bands.

Is Oregon State test-optional?

Oregon State also states that not submitting a score will not harm scholarship consideration. For merit aid the answer is different: no published criterion names a score — every threshold is an unweighted GPA. A student with no ACT reaches the Provost minimum at a 3.4 exactly as a 36 would. Being admitted without a score and qualifying for money without a score are two separate questions.

How much is a 30 on the ACT worth at Oregon State?

On Oregon State's published grid for Fall 2027 entry, an ACT of 30 with a 3.6 GPA qualifies for Non-residents outside the WUE states — Provost Scholarship at $10,000 a year, about $40,000 over four years if it renews.

Does in-state or out-of-state change merit aid at Oregon State?

Yes. Oregon State publishes separate grids: Residents of Western Undergraduate Exchange states run up to full tuition a year, and Non-residents outside the WUE states run $10,000 to $10,000. Check which grid applies to you before planning around a figure.

Does Oregon State superscore the ACT for scholarships?

No. Stated outright, though it makes no difference here — no OSU award reads a score. Oregon State doesn't calculate or accept 'super scores'.

When are Oregon State scholarship deadlines?

Provost and WUE: February 1. Presidential and Finley: On or before February 2. Early action (recommended): November 2. The application and the official score report are both due by that date, and ACT scores take roughly two to four weeks to arrive — so the last useful test date is several weeks earlier than the deadline suggests.

Is this Oregon State scholarship data current?

Every figure on this page was read from Oregon State University's own published pages and last verified on 2026-10-24. The sources are linked at the bottom of the page with that date. Grids change by entry year, so check the source before relying on a figure for a decision.
