Cameron University: merit scholarships by ACT score

Verified Oct 24, 2026Current cycleLawton, OK

Cameron University awards automatic merit aid from a published grid crossing ACT score with GPA. Awards start at an ACT of 24. Because the bands are steps rather than a slope, one point is worth nothing inside a band and the whole step at the edge of one.

Enter a score and a GPA below to see which band it actually lands in, what that band pays, and exactly how many points the next one needs.

This waiver is only for students whose permanent residence is outside Oklahoma, and it pays the out-of-state portion of tuition only — in-state tuition and all fees remain the student's. Cameron publishes no dollar figure for it. The page does not actually say the waiver is automatic, and the "automatically matched" wording found in search results was not present when the financial aid page was read. Falling below a 2.5 retention GPA revokes it permanently.

There is no higher band to reach at this GPA — more points would not change the award here. They may still matter for admission, for honours programmes, or at other schools on the list.

Knowing where a score sits is the easy part. Moving it starts with knowing exactly which questions they're being missed, and why.

Can you get merit aid at Cameron without an ACT score?

Yes. A 24 is a complete alternative to the 3.0 GPA. For a non-resident short of the GPA, that one number is the difference between out-of-state and in-state tuition.

Read the two columns in the grid below as a trade. The same award is reachable either way — with a score at a lower GPA, or with no score at a higher one. A score is worth real money to a student whose GPA sits under the test-optional line, and worth little to one comfortably above it.

“First-time full-time freshman students whose permanent residence is outside of Oklahoma must meet one of the following: Achieve an unweighted high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher; Achieve an ACT composite score of 24 or higher”

Does Cameron superscore for scholarships?

Not stated. With a single 24 threshold carrying the whole waiver, a student near it should ask directly.

With nothing published, plan for the stricter reading: look up your best single sitting in the grid above, work out your superscore as well, and ask Cameron’s financial aid office which one they read before you count on the higher band.

Where these numbers came from

Every figure on this page was read from Cameron University’s own published pages, linked below with the date we last confirmed them. We do not estimate a missing band or interpolate a value.

  • A 24 composite or an unweighted 3.0 — either one reaches the waiver.
  • The waiver pays the out-of-state portion of tuition only; in-state tuition and all fees remain the student's.
  • Cameron publishes no dollar figure for it, so its worth tracks the resident and non-resident tuition gap.
  • Falling below a 2.5 retention GPA revokes it permanently, with no reinstatement.
  • Oklahoma residents are not eligible, by definition.
  • Admission itself takes a 19, a top-half rank or a 2.7 — all lower than the waiver's bar.
  • First-time full-time freshmen only, and the GPA is unweighted.
  • The PLUS Scholarship for Oklahoma residents needs an essay, three letters and an interview for about twenty-five places, so it is competitive and not a band here.

Frequently asked questions

What ACT score do you need for a scholarship at Cameron?

Automatic merit aid at Cameron University starts at an ACT composite of 24, alongside the published GPA minimum, and reaches the out-of-state tuition portion of the recipient’s tuition bill at the top. The bands are steps rather than a slope, so the only score that matters is the next threshold above where you are now.

Is Cameron test-optional?

Admission takes any one of a 19 ACT, a top-half class rank, or an unweighted 2.7 — all lower bars than the waiver itself. For merit aid the answer is different: a 24 is a complete alternative to the 3.0 GPA. For a non-resident short of the GPA, that one number is the difference between out-of-state and in-state tuition. Being admitted without a score and qualifying for money without a score are two separate questions.

Does Cameron superscore the ACT for scholarships?

Not stated. With a single 24 threshold carrying the whole waiver, a student near it should ask directly.

You know what a score is worth at Cameron. The question is whether you can move it.

A grid tells you the target. It does not tell you which questions are costing the points between here and there. That takes about three minutes to find out.
