Southeastern Louisiana University: merit scholarships by ACT score

Verified Oct 21, 2026Summer/Fall 2026 and forward entryHammond, LA

Southeastern Louisiana University awards automatic merit aid from a published grid crossing ACT score with GPA. Awards start at an ACT of 24 and reach $4,000 a year. Because the bands are steps rather than a slope, one point is worth nothing inside a band and the whole step at the edge of one.

Enter a score and a GPA below to see which band it actually lands in, what that band pays, and exactly how many points the next one needs.

Read this first

Southeastern prices a superscore two points higher than a single sitting at every band — a 32 superscore earns what a 30 single-sitting earns. The bands here are the single-sitting thresholds, with the superscore equivalents noted. Three other things: a 24 ACT is an absolute floor with no GPA-only fallback, a GPA above 3.0 adds nothing because the award level comes entirely from the score, and the housing half disappears if the student stops living on campus. Awards are made 'on a funds available basis, subject to change'.

Example — an ACT 29 with a 3.60 GPA

The Southeastern Honors Scholarship

$3,750 annual scholarship, plus a $2,000 annual housing award if you live on campus / year

About $15,000 over four years, if it renews.

What the next points are worth

1 more point (a 30) moves you to The Southeastern Honors Scholarship — $4,000 annual scholarship, plus a $3,000 annual housing award if you live on campus a year. That is $250 more a year, or $1,000 over four years.

The question isn't whether a point is worth having. It's whether they can move it — which starts with knowing exactly which questions they're missing, and why.

The Southeastern Honors Scholarship — residents, non-residents and international alike

One grid for everyone; Southeastern draws no residency line and states that international students who qualify receive the same award. The housing supplement requires living on campus continuously from the first semester. Louisiana TOPS sits on a separate page and is not folded into these figures.

Does Southeastern superscore for scholarships?

Yes. Yes, and uniquely in this dataset Southeastern publishes the superscore as its own column with its own thresholds — two points higher than the single-sitting composite at every band. Accepting a superscore costs two points of credit, which is a trade a student can actually plan around.

“ACT Super Score Composite”

So the number that matters here is your superscore, not your best single test. Work out your superscore and look that score up in the grid above — it may sit a band higher than the one you have been planning around.

Southeastern scholarship deadlines

Entry termDue
Priority application date — awards are on a funds-available basisJanuary 15 of the senior year
Last qualifying test dateThe July test date after graduation

Scores take roughly two to four weeks to arrive, and official reports sent to schools can take longer, so the last useful test date is several weeks before the printed deadline. Check which test dates still make it.

Where these numbers came from

Every figure on this page was read from Southeastern Louisiana University’s own published pages, linked below with the date we last confirmed them. We do not estimate a missing band or interpolate a value.

  • The superscore penalty is the headline: a 31 superscore pays $3,750 where a 30 single-sitting pays $4,000. No other school here prices the two differently.
  • A 24 ACT is a hard cliff. A 23 with a 4.0 GPA receives nothing from this programme — there is no GPA-only or class-rank alternative band.
  • Every row requires the same 3.0 GPA, so improving a GPA beyond 3.0 cannot raise the award. Only the score can.
  • The GPA used is the six-semester one, through junior year.
  • A later score genuinely pays: Southeastern says an upgraded offer is applied automatically and the student is notified, if the better score arrives by August 1.
  • The 30-hours-a-year renewal requirement excludes AP, CLEP and dual-enrolment credit, which catches well-prepared students who assume their incoming credit counts.
  • Housing money is conditional on living on campus continuously from the first semester, and applies to residence halls, Southeastern Oaks and The Village.
  • Louisiana TOPS is kept entirely on a separate page and never folded into these figures — the cleanest state-money separation of the Louisiana schools here. How TOPS interacts with this award is not published.
  • Students completing 15 or more Southeastern dual enrolment credits can add $1,000 in the first year only, contingent on available funds.
  • National Merit finalists and semi-finalists receive $1,000 a semester for eight semesters, on submitting proof of standing.
  • Students admitted for Spring 2026 are evaluated under the prior criteria, which Southeastern does not publish on this page.
  • Southeastern is silent on the Enhanced ACT, which is notable for a grid that takes effect in Summer/Fall 2026 and prices superscores explicitly.

Frequently asked questions

What ACT score do you need for a scholarship at Southeastern?

Automatic merit aid at Southeastern Louisiana University starts at an ACT composite of 24, alongside the published GPA minimum, and reaches $4,000 a year at the top. The bands are steps rather than a slope, so the only score that matters is the next threshold above where you are now.

Is Southeastern test-optional?

Southeastern calls itself a selective admission university and weighs the GPA, the coursework and the test score together. It publishes no test-optional path. For merit aid the answer is different: required absolutely. A 24 ACT is the floor for any award on this grid, there is no GPA-only band, and qualifying scores must be earned by the July test date after graduation and received by August 1. Being admitted without a score and qualifying for money without a score are two separate questions.

How much is a 30 on the ACT worth at Southeastern?

On Southeastern's published grid for Summer/Fall 2026 and forward entry, an ACT of 30 with a 3.6 GPA qualifies for The Southeastern Honors Scholarship at $4,000 a year, about $16,000 over four years if it renews.

How much is one more ACT point worth at Southeastern?

The most valuable single point on Southeastern's published grid is 26 to 27, at a 3.0 GPA: it moves the award by $1,250 a year, or $5,000 across a four-year degree. The same point is worth less at other GPAs, and most points move nothing at all — the grid steps rather than slopes, which is why the only score worth aiming at is the next threshold.

Does Southeastern superscore the ACT for scholarships?

Yes. Yes, and uniquely in this dataset Southeastern publishes the superscore as its own column with its own thresholds — two points higher than the single-sitting composite at every band. Accepting a superscore costs two points of credit, which is a trade a student can actually plan around. ACT Super Score Composite

When are Southeastern scholarship deadlines?

Priority application date — awards are on a funds-available basis: January 15 of the senior year. Last qualifying test date: The July test date after graduation. Scores and GPA received by Southeastern: August 1 after graduation. The application and the official score report are both due by that date, and ACT scores take roughly two to four weeks to arrive — so the last useful test date is several weeks earlier than the deadline suggests.

You know what a score is worth at Southeastern. The question is whether you can move it.

A grid tells you the target. It does not tell you which questions are costing the points between here and there. That takes about three minutes to find out.
