Eastern New Mexico University: merit scholarships by ACT score
Eastern New Mexico University awards automatic merit aid from a published grid crossing ACT score with GPA. Awards start at an ACT of 20 and reach $5,400 a year. Because the bands are steps rather than a slope, one point is worth nothing inside a band and the whole step at the edge of one.
Enter a score and a GPA below to see which band it actually lands in, what that band pays, and exactly how many points the next one needs.

The score route and the GPA route are alternatives and a student receives the better one. ENMU publishes these amounts per semester as well as per year; the annual figures are shown here. No ENMU page read for this entry states that the awards are granted automatically, so confirm in writing. The bottom rung of each ladder is a first-year award rather than a renewable one.

What the next points are worth
1 more point (a 30) moves you to Freshman Academic Scholarship — $5,400 a year a year. That is $1,200 more a year, or $4,800 over four years.
The question isn't whether a point is worth having. It's whether they can move it — which starts with knowing exactly which questions they're missing, and why.

An ACT ladder and a GPA ladder with matching amounts, so a student qualifies on whichever is better. The GPA route tops out where a 24–25 does; above that only a score moves the award.

Does ENMU superscore for scholarships?
No. No. ENMU states the composite it reads is not superscored, and that it takes a student's highest composite — the best single sitting rather than the best sections combined across sittings. A retake helps only if the whole composite improves.
“ACT composite comes from the following sections: English | Reading | Science | Mathematics (not superscored)”
This matters more than it sounds. A student whose superscore crosses a band but whose best single sitting does not will be paid on the lower band. Look up your best single sitting in the grid above, then find what is costing you points on one test.
Comparing schools? See which colleges superscore for scholarships — 66 of 501 commit to it, 52 say they do not, and the rest never say.
Where these numbers came from
Every figure on this page was read from Eastern New Mexico University’s own published pages, linked below with the date we last confirmed them. We do not estimate a missing band or interpolate a value.

- Out-of-state freshman scholarshipsverified 2026-10-24
- Scholarships hub — composite and superscore policyverified 2026-10-24
- The exchange rate is printed rather than inferred: a 3.75 GPA equals a 24–25 ACT, and a 3.50 equals a 22–23.
- For a resident, the GPA route caps at $3,400 while a 30 pays $5,400 — the top $2,000 a year needs a score.
- The bottom rung of each ladder pays for the first year only, not for four.
- Non-residents are paid roughly half the resident figure at every rung.
- ENMU publishes these amounts per semester as well as per year.
- ENMU explicitly does not superscore, and takes the highest single composite.
- The ACT composite ENMU reads includes Science, which the Enhanced ACT makes optional — a student should confirm which composite ENMU wants.
- Neither page prints an entry year.

Frequently asked questions
What ACT score do you need for a scholarship at ENMU?
Automatic merit aid at Eastern New Mexico University starts at an ACT composite of 20, alongside the published GPA minimum, and reaches $5,400 a year at the top of the 2 grids it publishes. The bands are steps rather than a slope, so the only score that matters is the next threshold above where you are now.
Is ENMU test-optional?
ENMU's scholarship pages do not state the admission testing requirement, so nothing is claimed about it here. For merit aid the answer is different: a score is an alternative route, and above a 25 it is the only route. For a resident the GPA ladder caps at $3,400 while a 30 pays $5,400, so the top $2,000 a year is reachable with a score and not without one. Below a 24 the two ladders pay the same. Being admitted without a score and qualifying for money without a score are two separate questions.
How much is a 30 on the ACT worth at ENMU?
On ENMU's published grid for the current cycle, an ACT of 30 with a 3.6 GPA qualifies for New Mexico residents — Freshman Academic Scholarship at $5,400 a year, about $21,600 over four years if it renews; Non-residents — Freshman Academic Scholarship at $3,000 a year, about $12,000 over four years if it renews.
How much is one more ACT point worth at ENMU?
The most valuable single point on ENMU's published grid is 29 to 30, on the row where it is largest: it moves the award by $1,200 a year, or $4,800 across a four-year degree on the New Mexico residents grid. The same point is worth less at other GPAs, and most points move nothing at all — the grid steps rather than slopes, which is why the only score worth aiming at is the next threshold.
Does in-state or out-of-state change merit aid at ENMU?
Yes. ENMU publishes separate grids: New Mexico residents run $2,600 to $5,400 a year, and Non-residents run $1,000 to $3,000 — a difference of $2,400 a year at the top. Check which grid applies to you before planning around a figure.
Does ENMU superscore the ACT for scholarships?
No. No. ENMU states the composite it reads is not superscored, and that it takes a student's highest composite — the best single sitting rather than the best sections combined across sittings. A retake helps only if the whole composite improves. ACT composite comes from the following sections: English | Reading | Science | Mathematics (not superscored)
