Tennessee Technological University: merit scholarships by ACT score

Verified Oct 21, 2026Fall 2027 entryCookeville, TN

Tennessee Technological University awards automatic merit aid from a published grid crossing ACT score with GPA. Awards start at an ACT of 23 and reach $10,000 a year. Because the bands are steps rather than a slope, one point is worth nothing inside a band and the whole step at the edge of one.

Enter a score and a GPA below to see which band it actually lands in, what that band pays, and exactly how many points the next one needs.

Only Tennessee Tech's own 'Amount Per Year' is shown. Its published 'Year Total' of up to $15,500 adds HOPE and HOPE Merit, which are Tennessee lottery awards from the state — in-state only, and conditional on filing a FAFSA every year. Tech also refuses superscores outright, so a single sitting is what counts, and it reserves the right to limit awards if funding is unavailable.

Presidential Scholars

$4,000 / year

About $16,000 over four years, if it renews.

There is no higher band to reach at this GPA — more points would not change the award here. They may still matter for admission, for honours programmes, or at other schools on the list.

Knowing where a score sits is the easy part. Moving it starts with knowing exactly which questions they're being missed, and why.

Who's this for?
Tennessee Tech’s apply for admission is December 15, 2026. The next ACT is 12/12 and scores take up to four weeks, so they would arrive after that date. The score they has now is the one this deadline uses.

Is Tennessee Tech test-optional?

For admission, largely yes. A 3.0 GPA admits without scores. There is a second route at a 2.50 GPA with a 17 ACT and minimum sub-scores, so a score helps a weaker transcript.

For money, no. Required for every award on this page, and the deadline is on receipt rather than on sitting: scores must reach Tech by January 15, 2027. A family that reads “test-optional” and skips the ACT can be admitted and still walk away from every dollar on the grid below.

“If submitted, test scores such as the ACT and SAT will be considered.”

Presidential Scholars — December 15 deadline

Tech says award amounts depend on which deadline you meet, but publishes only one: the December 15 tier. A student applying later cannot see what they would be offered.

Does Tennessee Tech superscore for scholarships?

No. No, and Tech repeats the refusal under each award rather than burying it once. The award is set by a single sitting's composite.

“ACT Superscores cannot be used for scholarship eligibility.”

This matters more than it sounds. A student whose superscore crosses a band but whose best single sitting does not will be paid on the lower band. Look up your best single sitting in the grid above, then find what is costing you points on one test.

Where these numbers came from

Every figure on this page was read from Tennessee Technological University’s own published pages, linked below with the date we last confirmed them. We do not estimate a missing band or interpolate a value.

  • A 36 pays $2,000 a year more than a 35 — the steepest single-point step at the top of any grid in this dataset.
  • Below a 3.75 GPA the grid flattens hard: at a 3.40, every score from 25 to 36 pays the same $4,000.
  • A later ACT can still raise the award, but only if the score reaches Tech by January 15, 2027. After that no adjustment is made.
  • Awards do not stack — a student eligible for more than one receives the greater of the two, and the Golden Opportunity Grant explicitly does not stack with Presidential Scholars.
  • Tech reserves the right to limit awards 'if necessary funding is not available', which applies to the guaranteed Presidential awards too.
  • Total aid is capped at the estimated cost of attendance; awards above that line are reduced.
  • Gap-year students are excluded — Tech requires graduating from high school in the fall or spring immediately preceding entry.
  • An Upper Cumberland Valedictorian/Salutatorian award of $3,500 at a 17 ACT also appears on this page, but it is restricted to valedictorians and salutatorians of Upper Cumberland public high schools, sits under the competitive heading, and its own text still carries prior-cycle dates (January 15, 2026) on a page headed Fall 2027. Not modelled.
  • Tennessee Tech is silent on the Enhanced ACT despite keying every award to a single-sitting composite.

Frequently asked questions

What ACT score do you need for a scholarship at Tennessee Tech?

Automatic merit aid at Tennessee Technological University starts at an ACT composite of 23, alongside the published GPA minimum, and reaches $10,000 a year at the top. The bands are steps rather than a slope, so the only score that matters is the next threshold above where you are now.

Is Tennessee Tech test-optional?

A 3.0 GPA admits without scores. There is a second route at a 2.50 GPA with a 17 ACT and minimum sub-scores, so a score helps a weaker transcript. For merit aid the answer is different: required for every award on this page, and the deadline is on receipt rather than on sitting: scores must reach Tech by January 15, 2027. Being admitted without a score and qualifying for money without a score are two separate questions.

How much is a 30 on the ACT worth at Tennessee Tech?

On Tennessee Tech's published grid for Fall 2027 entry, an ACT of 30 with a 3.6 GPA qualifies for Presidential Scholars at $4,000 a year, about $16,000 over four years if it renews.

How much is one more ACT point worth at Tennessee Tech?

The most valuable single point on Tennessee Tech's published grid is 34 to 35, at a 3.75 GPA: it moves the award by $3,000 a year, or $12,000 across a four-year degree. The same point is worth less at other GPAs, and most points move nothing at all — the grid steps rather than slopes, which is why the only score worth aiming at is the next threshold.

Does Tennessee Tech superscore the ACT for scholarships?

No. No, and Tech repeats the refusal under each award rather than burying it once. The award is set by a single sitting's composite. ACT Superscores cannot be used for scholarship eligibility.

When are Tennessee Tech scholarship deadlines?

Apply for admission: December 15, 2026. Scholarship application in ScholarWeb: December 15, 2026. Transcripts and test scores received — a later score cannot raise the award: January 15, 2027. The application and the official score report are both due by that date, and ACT scores take roughly two to four weeks to arrive — so the last useful test date is several weeks earlier than the deadline suggests.
